Appointment Martha Delgado

Fundación PENSAR wellcome Martha Delgado as new General Director of the Global Cities Covenant on Climate “Mexico City Pact” (MCP) Secretariat.

Ms. Delgado previously served as Mexico City Minister of the Environment during the 2006-2012 administration of Mayor Marcelo Ebrard, during which time she implemented major public policies for Mexico City such as its Climate Action Plan, its Green Plan of the City, Bicycle Mobility Strategy, “Ecobici” bike sharing system, rehabilitation of the Magdalena River, rehabilitation of the city’s hillsides and public parks, and the opening of Mexico City’s recycling market.

On the international level, Delgado drove organization of the World Mayors Summit on Climate Change that was subsequently convened by the Mexico City Mayor’s Office, ICLEI, WMSC and UCLG, where the MCP was signed. From that time, she has been one of the pact’s most important boosters at a number of international forums. She is also ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability’s First Vice-President.

In her more than twenty-year career as an environmentalist (both in the pubic and private sectors), she served as a non-partisan Deputy from 2003-2006, during which time she created and oversaw the Special Water Commission. She served as president of Mexico’s most important environmentalist network, the Unión de Grupos Ambientalistas, from 1998-2003, as well as Presidential Advisor to the Mexican Federal Government’s National Institute of Ecology from 1993 to 1998.

Delgado will serve as Secretariat liaison to Pact partners, allies and sponsors and as of today will coordinate signatory mayor relations, published Secretariat reports, annual commitment-compliance report drafting and publication and new-pact-member development. We are certain that Martha’s joining the team will enhance the MCP profile and solidify the Global Cities Covenant on Climate as a leading participatory instrument for cities’ ongoing fight against climate change.

Martha Delgado will join the Fundación PENSAR Planeta, Política, Persona International Council, from which she will carry out her activities as MCP´s Secretariat General Director.
